Practicing Self-Care

Practicing Self-Care

Happy Friday!

Hope you all are enjoying summer so far. Summer is my favorite season because I am an August baby hehe. As fun as summer can get, there is probably always a lot to do. For people who are always on the go or have tight schedules, this is for you. Practicing self-care is super important and I started to realize that this year too during my senior year at UCLA. Self-care means that you are also taking care of yourself and trying to de-stress from all your daily tasks.

Hold Up – But What Really is Self-Care?

Self care is care provided “for you and by you.” It’s about identifying your own needs and taking steps to meet them for a healthy you. It is taking the time to do some of the activities that nurture you and make you happy. Self care is about taking proper care of yourself and treating yourself as kindly as you treat others.

Find self-care that works for you.

Often, we think that there is a “one-size fits all”, but there isn’t. Try to find a self-care routine that works for you. What makes you feel calm, grounded, content, and helps you realign?

Do what works for you, not what works for everyone else.

It might take some time and experimentation for you to find what you truly enjoy. Give yourself that time and space to figure it out. Don’t get frustrated with yourself if you feel like “you’re taking too long” because no one is timing or pressuring yourself except for yourself.

How Can You Practice Self Care?

It’s as simple as this: by making time for yourself by doing things you enjoy or make you feel relaxed.

You should focus on doing an activity or thing to satisfy your physical, emotional, and mental needs.

More Personal Ideas of Things I Do for Self-Care

Manicure/Pedicure – helps me feel relaxed and feel like I am taking care of how I look

Learn a new skill – i.e.: through watching Youtube videos (Photoshop, etc)

Sleep – Makes sure that you are well-rested and not stressed

Go to Social Events to meet people – social connections can create a sense of belonging and acceptance

Hiking – I always feel calm and happy when I go hiking because nature has a calming effect

Try something new, just for you – whether it is a new food, new place, new outfit…

Plan a Vacation – MY FAVORITE thing to do lol. I always try to convince my parents to go on a vacation whenever we can because it allows you to experience different places. Going out of a place you are always in is important and vacations does a mind and body good. 🙂

Say NO to negativity and negative people – Don’t feel afraid to cut people off or stay distanced from those who are making you feel low. You have the right to choose positivity.

Accept that some things are out of your control (i.e. how others react to you) and if you don’t like something that is in your control, change it. This one took me a while to realize that sometimes you cannot control things but how you react to it is what really matters. Try not to let things get to you that cannot be changed. Move on.

Stop comparing yourself to others – I used to do this a lot but I realized that it is wrong because we are all different. Embrace who you are as a person and do things that YOU enjoy. Love and take care of yourself. Who cares what other people think?

Make sure you take care of yourself. Do not forget about yourself in the process of your tasks.

Try to create a daily ritual – whether daily or nightly, make time for fun, and above all, prioritize and choose happiness.

Remember that you are worthy of your own love and care. ❤️

Love you all ❤️ Thanks for stopping by!
